Our season runs from 3rd April until 30th September 2010.

General Public Open Days

House and Garden (visits not bookable in advance)

  •  Every Wednesday, 11am to 5pm.
  •  First and third Saturdays, 11am to 5pm: April 3rd & 17th, May 1st & 15th,
     June 5th & 19th, July 3rd & 17th, August 7th & 21st, September 4th & 18th.

Ticket office opens 10.30am. Last admission to the house 4.30pm.

The house has limited capacity. Admission to the house is by timed ticket.

Our shop and licensed restaurant are open throughout the general public open times

Admission prices

  •  House and Garden: Adults £8.50; Children (8 to 16 years) £4.25; Students in
     f/t education and with a valid student's card £4.25; one carer accompanying a
     disabled person FREE. Kelmscott Manor is a member of the Historic Houses
     Association.
  •  House and Garden - Admission by Gift Aid donation: Adults £9.50; Children
     (8 to 16 years) £4.75; Students in f.t. education and with a valid student's card
     £4.75. (This is an option for UK taxpayers, whereby Kelmscott Manor claims 25p
     in the £ on your tax PLUS, currently, 3p in the £ in transitional relief from the
     government. So, on a £9.50 donation this brings an additional £2.66 to benefit
     the upkeep of Kelmscott Manor).
  •  Garden only: £2

Suggested Routes

From the north (M1)

Exit the M1 at junction 21 and take M69 towards Coventry. Take A46 to Warwick. From Warwick take A429 to Stow-on-the-Wold. Just past Stow-on-the-Wold take A424 to Burford and then the A361 to Lechlade. At Lechlade turn left onto A417 to Faringdon. Kelmscott is signposted on the left just before The Trout pub. Follow the signs to Kelmscott and Kelmscott Manor.

From London via M4 (Swindon)

Exit M4 at junction 15 (Swindon). Head north on A419 towards Cirencester. Take A361 (right turn) to Burford. At Lechlade take A417 to Faringdon. Kelmscott is signposted on the left just before The Trout pub. Follow the signs to Kelmscott and Kelmscott Manor.

From London via M40 (Oxford)

At M40 junction 8A take A40 Oxford bypass, signposted Cheltenham. At Witney take A4095 to Faringdon. The Kelmscott turning is signposted on the right, after the village of Clanfield. Follow the signs to Kelmscott and Kelmscott Manor.

Disabled Persons Parking

The Manor car park (general public open days) is situated close to the church and is signposted. Please note that there is a short walk from the car park to the Manor (approx. 10 minutes). Disabled parking and a drop-off point are available at the Manor.

Unfortunately, there is no public transport to Kelmscott Manor. These notes are provided to help you plan your journey should you not have a car. We advise you to ring the appropriate enquiry line(s) or visit the appropriate website(s) to obtain up-to-date information on routes and timetables.

The nearest mainline railway stations are Swindon and Oxford. The fastest line from London is Paddington to Swindon.

From Swindon

Stagecoach service nos. 64 or 74, Swindon Railway Station forecourt to Lechlade (approx. 30 minutes)

Lechlade is approximately 3 miles from Kelmscott Manor. Either a walk (we suggest along the River Thames path, which will bring you to within 200 yards of the Manor) or a taxi ride (see below)

From Oxford

Stagecoach service no. 100, Oxford Gloucester Green to Carterton (approx. 1 hour), or

Stagecoach service no. 200, Oxford George Street to Carterton (approx. 1 hour)

At Carterton, pick up the Stagecoach (minibus) service no. 19 to Clanfield (approx. 10 mins.)

Clanfield is approximately 3 miles from Kelmscott. Either a walk (south along the A4095 and then right along Langley Lane, signposted Kelmscott and follow the signs but note that most of this route is without any footpath) or a taxi ride (see below)

From Cirencester

Apl Travel service no. 877, Cirencester Market Place to Lechlade (approx. 50 mins.)

The centre of Lechlade is approximately 3 miles from Kelmscott (see notes under 'From Swindon', above)

By cycle, on foot or by boat

Cyclists are welcome to park their bikes in the Manor grounds (ignore signs to our main car park as you enter the village and follow signs for the Manor itself). Cycles can be left in an area overseen by our gate stewards (but not under any cover).

Kelmscott Manor is only 200 metres along a track from the Thames Path and the river itself, at a point where it is possible to moor, temporarily. The Manor is signposted from the path.
